A terribly cold and drizzly start to the day.
We have nowhere to be right now, so it’s a very leisurely breakfast before moving to another venue for a coffee.

Geoff and Lisa are off to a lecture about night skies but Stuart and I got really good seats in the cafe, so we are staying out for now just reading and writing.

Today we arrive in Ketchikan, not scheduled to do so until about 2pm but it’s about 12.30 and I can see it ahead.

We had a quick bite to eat before heading off.
No adventures planned for today so it’s wander that we will do.
There are many touristy things to do here like in all these little towns, most of the activities have precious little to do with the town.

I hope the locals like us…. But as we arrived there were 3 other giant cruise ships already parked so each with about 2500 passengers, that’s a lot of tourists for these tiny towns

Ketchikan is pretty, it’s kind of squeezed in between the mountains ( Deer Mountain)and the sea.
So many of the obligatory souvenir shops ( don’t get me wrong, I love them) saloon bars and not even one good coffee shop but tucked out the back in the foothills is the very old and original part of town.

The creek street area. Beautiful old houses built on stilts in the water.

This area was originally a summer camping area for the natives catching salmon in the spawning season as they head up the creek.
This is where the town has its origins but as it grew larger and with the advent of prohibition this is where the speakeasy’s and brothels moved to.
There are plaques with the stories of some of the ladies who worked there on the walls of their houses and old bars turned into shops of course.

We head back to the ship for little bit before sundowners.

Whilst waiting for our dinner reservation, we pop into the theatre to have a look. Tonight it’s a tribute to Whitney Houston.
I was never a huge Whitney fan but could always appreciate she had a magnificent voice.
This lady did a stellar job with some of the very tough songs. Very entertaining.

Fun dinner but much too late to be eating.
Winding the clock forward an hour made the night even later……..
