It was a quick trip, giving us a taste of both Canada and Alaska. The Canadian days were long and I am grateful that the travel was in a bus so the sensational views and scenery could help us while away the hours. Our guide, Alex was also very mindful of breaking up the day with a few stops. Even if it was a Tim Hortons or Walmart or just a great view for a quick stop. The crew are a nice bunch of people, all 44 of us! We all tend to keep pretty much to ourselves. The cruise was great. The ship, although not really my cup of tea in regards to size etc ( 2000 people) was really nice. Our rooms were lovely and plenty of room especially with the balcony, although a tad chilly to be outside. We visited the towns of Hoonah, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan. All quirky, small towns, but each had a little highlight. Our arrival and disembarking back in Vancouver was seemless and we were putting our bags in luggage storage before 9.30am giving us the whole day to play. We had a great day jumping...

Happy Birthday Father Green, sorry we’re not there to share with you, but we hope you had fun. This morning we allowed ourselves the luxury of just lying around and enjoying cups of tea in bed and reading. Met with Geoff and Lisa at 9 for some breakfast, very relaxed and headed back to our rooms to do a bit of sorting. Today is an on board cruising day and the last day of the cruise. We are making a run down the Canadian coastline towards Vancouver where we will arrive early tomorrow morning. I will get up early as I believe we will pass under the Lionsgate Bridge around 5am and onto the port. And I did! and here she is. Today required a bit of thought and organisation, as our bags need to be outside our doors at 6pm tonight. We are reunited after Canadian customs but still we do we put our pyjamas ??? Tonight we are taking Geoff and Lisa out for dinner, playing our small part to celebrate Lisa’s 60th It’s was a fun night, quite fine dining so presentation was everything and the food w...

A terribly cold and drizzly start to the day. We have nowhere to be right now, so it’s a very leisurely breakfast before moving to another venue for a coffee. Geoff and Lisa are off to a lecture about night skies but Stuart and I got really good seats in the cafe, so we are staying out for now just reading and writing. Today we arrive in Ketchikan, not scheduled to do so until about 2pm but it’s about 12.30 and I can see it ahead. We had a quick bite to eat before heading off. No adventures planned for today so it’s wander that we will do. There are many touristy things to do here like in all these little towns, most of the activities have precious little to do with the town. I hope the locals like us…. But as we arrived there were 3 other giant cruise ships already parked so each with about 2500 passengers, that’s a lot of tourists for these tiny towns Ketchikan is pretty, it’s kind of squeezed in between the mountains ( Deer Mountain)and the sea. So many of the obligatory souvenir s...

A bit of an early rise to start the day but with great reward and we didn’t need to change out of our pyjamas yet as the magnificence was just gliding by outside our balcony. At about 4.30 ( and yes both the sun and I were up and awake.) started making its way through the Endicott Arm. We sail so close to the tall granite cliffs beside us, the water is superbly turquoise and big chunks of ice float by. We are hoping to see some critters out and about but no joy there this morning. By about 7 we are smack bang in front of the Dawes Glacier, apparently this is the closest the ships have been able to get since about 2018. ( we are also out of pyjamas and on deck now) It is spectacular and with a little bit of early morning sunshine peaking through, it really is something special. The captain performed a 180 to turn the ship so everyone can have a peak,I can’t imagine that was an easy feat and I reckon as we turned the passengers at the bow of the boat could have almost touched the granite...
