About an hours drive into Vancouver and we did a small scale city tour. Lots of roadworks etc which are hindering our journey but we manage to get to Stanley park and spend a little time.
The name Stanley seems to pop up a bit, as in Stanley Cup ( ice hockey) and Stanley Gardens and I believe he was a governor of Vancouver. Well they must have really liked him.
Time to grab a coffee and admire some Totem Poles. Really nice to see them and they have an interesting story to tell.
Mostly replicas and one at the front was made by the family of the lady who was the last remaining women in her tribe.
We will hopefully return here after the cruise. We have a day to fill in we arrive back before returning home.
From here we head to Canada Place to embark on the ship. We are a little early so we drop our bags to go for a walk.
The old original town know as Gastown is super close so we head in the that direction to grab some lunch before getting on board.
Interestingly police everywhere, road blocked but they do let us walk on the opposite side of the road.
The restaurant beside where we are heading has been evacuated but we are still able to the pub we we’re heading.
Bomb threat apparently…
All over by the time we finish our lunch.
Happy Mother’s Day to these 2 mothers.
Back to Canada Place to go through customs and embark.
There are 3 cruise ships leaving this afternoon and that’s about 4000 people each one.
From whoa to go it took about an hour which was extraordinary.
Usual safety briefing and we are free to go checkout our rooms.
Spent the afternoon trying to orientate ourselves to this enormous ship.
Booked in for an early dinner at one of the many restaurants, this one looks pretty posh so thankfully it’s all included.
Meal was superb, 3 courses and different wine with each. Waited on by a sommelier, beer and cocktails waiter, food waiter and a dessert waiter.
I think each one realised this was our first time as we didn’t have clue as to how it all worked.
Hugely entertaining evening.
One last lap of the ship and retreated to our lovely cabins.
